On October 18th, 2014, over 100 enthusiastic dog lovers along with some two dozen therapy dogs walked along a lovely beach area in West Haven, CT, to support Charlotte’s Litter.

Charlotte’s Litter was founded in honor of Charlotte Helen Bacon, a young avid dog lover, who tragically lost her life on December 14, 2012, in Sandy Hook, CT. We, her family and friends, received comfort and love bestowed upon us from our local comfort & therapy dogs. In honor of our Charlotte and the care that we received, Charlotte’s Litter was founded.

The Walk-a-thon event helped promote awareness of the valuable use of therapy dogs. The key purpose of the Walk-A-Thon was to raise funds to support future initiatives.  We were very encouraged with the giving response and will be sharing with you how close we came to our target goal. These funds will be directed toward:

  • Ongoing efforts to support expanded use of Charlotte’s Litter program; advocacy for Therapy/Comfort Dogs in additional schools in the state of CT
  • Continued efforts to train more Therapy/Comfort Dogs on K9FR, and to support deployment costs when dispatched
  • Continued partnership efforts with public/municipal services and local chapter literacy programs like R.E.A.D.

The Walk-A-Thon was made possible because of the dedication of many, many volunteers who happily give time and effort to support this important cause. A big thanks to each of them and to all who shared in this wonderful event!

We are so grateful for the warm support of the West Haven community in providing the logistical support, and for each of the participants.
